Oprah: Their fortitude is so inspiring to me, and the movement they’ve sparked is a shining example of what people can achieve when they band together in order to create change. They’re not only sacrificing their jobs but their lives, all to stand up for their rights and for freedom. They have gotten arrested they’ve been brutalized and even killed. These women and their supporters are taking to the streets, taking to social media, cutting their hair in an act of resistance, burning their headscarves-making sure we don’t forget Mahsa’s name. Ever since, protesters in Iran and across the world have been calling for justice for her death. It was September 16th when Mahsa Amini died while in police custody after she was arrested for allegedly wearing her headscarf too loosely. Oprah: I wanted to just take a moment, if you’ll let me, to recognize the brave women of Iran who are in the fight for their lives. Since then, thousands of protesters in Iran have taken to the streets and people across the world have spoken out in support of Iranian women. On September 16, Amini died in police custody, just three days after her arrest. But, before the night officially kicked off, Oprah was moved to share her thoughts about the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman who was arrested by the morality police for wearing her headscarf too loosely.
